Xuetas: Hidden Jews of Majorca

In Majorca, Jews forcibly converted to Christianity in the medieval period were called Xuetas.  Despite conversion, they suffered isolation and persecution for centuries.   In recent years, many have been reclaiming their Jewish heritage.

The documentary Xueta Island takes an intimate look into the lives of modern-day descendants of these people. Through personal stories, research, and cultural reflection, the film uncovers the enduring legacy of the Xuetas, exploring how the memory of persecution and exclusion has influenced the construction of their identity. The documentary also delves into recent efforts to reconnect with their Jewish heritage.

We invite you to join a special Moreshet event on Tuesday 15th October at 4pm UK time to meet Ofer Laszewicki Rubin, co-director of the documentary. Participants will also have the opportunity to view the film beforehand.
