The Foundation for Jewish Heritage is delighted to announce the appointment of Simon Sebag Montefiore as its latest Trustee.
Simon is joining what is already a distinguished group of Trustees consisting of David Bearman, Lord Daniel Finkelstein OBE, Stephen Goldman, Dame Helen Hyde DBE, Rt Hon Jim Murphy, Daniel Peltz OBE, Esther Robinson Wild, Stuart Roden and Sir Simon Schama CBE.
Simon is an internationally bestselling and award-winning historian and novelist, whose books have been published in over forty languages, and a number are being developed into films or TV series.
The author has written and presented four BBC television series, on Jerusalem, Rome, Istanbul and Spain.
Simon, who is a descendent of the 19th century Jewish leader Sir Moses Montefiore, read history at Gonville and Caius College University of Cambridge, where he received his Doctorate of Philosophy.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, he lives in London.
Simon commented, “preserving vulnerable Jewish heritage that speaks to the story of the Jewish people across centuries is a subject that connects directly to my interests. I am delighted to join the Foundation and support this important cause”.
Foundation Chair Dame Helen Hyde stated, “to have someone of Simon’s renown join us is wonderful, and a wonderful endorsement of our mission. We warmly welcome Simon and look forward to working with him.”
Michael Mail, Founder and Chief Executive, remarked, “Simon will be an important new voice within our leadership team and I am sure the Foundation will benefit greatly from his involvement.”
